![]() I was chatting with a client recently about how they were before their session. I had reviewed my notes from their previous sessions and had a pretty good idea of what they need to address their ongoing pain, but I always check if there are changes or something different is needed this time. This lovely client gave me an update on how they were feeling and how effective their massage has been for them (which I’m happy to say is very effective). Then they paused and asked “Well, enough about me; how are you?”. My response was “This is your session, it’s all about you”. Your massage session is your time. A time for you. A time to relax and to take care of your body, to put yourself in my hands. Life can be demanding. This client was simply being courteous and polite. They are a regular and I’ve seen them a few times and gotten to know them a little. I don’t mind sharing some of what’s going on in my life – there’s usually something funny or slightly odd going on - especially if it may be relevant to your situation. Although I’m more quiet than outgoing, I like to talk to people. But my point is that as a client, your appointment is all about you. It’s why both of us are here. You came in with a problem, whether it’s stress or pain, and we both want it to be better. This is your time to let somebody else take care of you. Your assignment during this time will be: - Lay on the table - Let me know how things are feeling - Turn over at some point That’s about it. I know you can handle that. Even more importantly, I believe you will benefit from that. I appreciate your interest in me, even if it’s just to laugh at my misadventures, but it really is all about you.

Self love is a term that is bandied about a lot these days but what are we really talking about? When someone says "you should love yourself more" or the ever popular "you can't love someone else until you love yourself" what are they talking about?
Self love is important. It influences who you pick for a partner, the image you project at work, and how you cope with problems in your day to day life. It is so important to your welfare that I want you to know how to bring more of it into your life. So, what is self love then? Is it something you can buy in the cosmetics department? Can you get more of it by reading a life coach's Instagram feed? Can a new relationship make you love yourself more? The answer to all of these questions is a firm and resounding NO! Although they feel good these types of activities aren't really turning up that self love dial since self love is not simply a state of feeling good. Self love is the appreciation for yourself. Not in a negative, shallow way but in a positive way that allows psychological, spiritual and physical growth. Nor is self love static, it grows by actions that mature us. When grow our self love we are better able to accept our weaknesses as well as our strengths. Our compassion for ourselves and others increases and our shortcomings become a part of human nature instead of something to be hidden or ashamed of. We are all human here and we all have them. There are lots of ways you can show yourself a little (or heaps of) self love and some of them we even do unconsciously. Things like protecting ourselves, setting boundaries and maintaining focus are all forms of self love but there are some that require a little more introspection. Taking time out for mindfulness is important, even if it feels like a waste of time. Being mindful is about taking the time to focus on what you think, feel and want. Be mindful of who you are and act on this knowledge, rather than on what others want for you. A great time to do this is during your massage! Take the time to really consider those nagging thoughts in a safe, relaxing environment. Show yourself a little self love after the busy holiday season by booking your next appointment here. I love massage so much I think you guys should give it a go too. Massage a friend or massage yourself or get a professional massage. However you do it look after those muscles!
It's the time of year that we start thinking of sleeveless tops and swimwear... eek! Time to diet right? Well, maybe not. Businesses in the health and wellness industry experience a spike in sales as people attempt to change themselves “for the better.” Diets are a big portion of those sales, and we think that’s a shame.
Let’s face it, diets are a big portion of those sales. In this post, we’re going to talk about why we feel the last thing you need is a diet. Changing your menu… often temporarily More often than not a diet is a change in your menu and if you’ve ever attempted to change your eating habits you know it can be downright hard. If you’re not prepared or totally ready for the change, the upkeep of a diet can be too much and eventually you’ll fall off the wagon. Not all diets are created equal In fact, some diets are dangerous. Trends in the media would leave you to believe that what they are promoting is healthy and good for you, but if you read the fine (often barely seen) fine print in these ads you’ll find a disclaimer. Diets are usually about restrictions and “can’ts” Your mindset when it comes to food can make or break a new habit. If you’re looking at all the things you can’t eat, it carries a negative feel. Restriction eventually turns to resentment and you’re back at square one. Often a lot poorer. Diets often don’t encompass your whole body As stated earlier, diets primarily focuses on food. Food is vital for health and wellness, but you’re made up of so much more. What you should be focusing on is what makes you feel good. What foods make you feel foggy? Which ones give you energy? What activities do you enjoy the most? Self care goes beyond food. Buying clothes that fit your body, reading a good book and hanging out socially are all things you can do in addition to changing your eating habits. Even getting a massage is a good way to promote health and well being. It’s tempting try the quick or easy way out and in doing so fall into health traps. Consider the things that benefits your whole being and makes you happy - and go after that! |
